Climate Core for Entrance Doors: Maximum Thermal Insulation in Minimal Space with Vacuum Insulation Panels

  • Entrance doors with Climate Core achieve Ud values up to 0.80 W/m²K with a construction depth of just 44 mm
  • No longer a compromise between slim design and high energy efficiency
  • Solution now available for entrance door and sandwich panel manufacturers

Würzburg, March 19, 2026. Anyone looking for an energy-efficient entrance door has so far had to make compromises – either in terms of design, installation space, or insulation performance. The new Climate Core from va-Q-tec, developed together with door panel specialist T-WINS (Andreas Krogull), resolves this conflict. Based on va-Q-tec’s vacuum insulation panels (VIPs), the solution enables entrance door and sandwich panel manufacturers to build doors with outstanding thermal insulation properties without increasing the thickness of the door leaf. The result: improved building energy performance, lower heating costs for residents, and greater design freedom for manufacturers.

“Entrance door manufacturers are under constant pressure: energy performance requirements continue to increase, while doors must remain slim and visually appealing. With the Climate Core, we are now providing manufacturers with a solution that makes both possible and can be easily integrated into existing designs,” says Lars Röhl, Senior Technical Sales Manager at va-Q-tec.

Andreas Krogull of T-WINS also highlights the practical benefits for the industry: “Together with va-Q-tec, we have developed a concept that integrates seamlessly into existing production processes. Manufacturers benefit from a wide range of models that can be configured flexibly. This enables them to offer homeowners and property owners doors that combine attractive design with optimal insulation performance.”

Lower heating costs, greater comfort – the benefits of Climate Core

From a thermal perspective, entrance doors represent a critical weak point in the building envelope. However, by integrating a 20 mm VIP panel, even a door panel with a construction depth of just 44 mm can achieve a Up value of approximately 0.45 W/m²K, enabling Ud values of 0.80 W/m²K. This meets the requirements of modern energy efficiency standards and can also be realized for PVC entrance doors. For residents, this means noticeably reduced heat loss at the door, more stable indoor temperatures, and lower heating costs.

va-Q-tec’s patented va-Q-seam technology ensures smooth edges and corners of the panels, allowing seamless integration into the foam core—an important advantage for both processing quality and long-term durability.

From standard entrance doors to corridor access doors

The flexible Climate Core portfolio covers door panels both with and without glazing. The VIP formats have been specifically optimized for use in entrance doors, enabling a wide range of models. Custom formats are also available for special projects.

The solution is particularly valuable for arbor doors where the combined requirements for sound insulation and thermal insulation can be met more cost-effectively than before, both for PVC and aluminum doors.

Door panel manufacturer Grad Export has already launched a series product featuring an integrated Climate Core. More information will be available at FENSTERBAU FRONTALE, Hall 7, Booth 218, March 24–27, 2026.
