Vacuum Insulation Panels (VIPs) transform the principle of a thermos bottle to a flat panel shape.
VIPs are built from open pore materials like pressed powder boards, glass fibres or open cell organic foams. The core materials are wrapped in a high gas barrier film using a special procedure and then evacuated and sealed. The thermal conductivity of VIPs produced by va-Q-tec (e.g. va-Q-vip) is only one tenth of the conductivity of conventional insulation materials like mineral wool or foams: ca. 0.004 W/mK compared to 0.040 W/mK. Thus a 20 mm vacuum panel is thermally equivalent to 20 cm thick conventional foam or fibre insulation.
